When Curtis met Marissa – Wainwright Wedding Photography

Curtis and Marissa have one of those love stories that warms my heart. They have known each other their whole lives and truly become the best of friends. Having known these two since we were kids I was quite excited when they asked me to be part of this important day in their relationship.

The wedding day was perfect. Marissa had everything planned so well and she was beyond organized. From beginning to end Marissa thought of everything.

Brophy – Wainwright Family Portraits

When Mitch contacted me a few weeks ago about booking a session for his mom I thought it was the greatest idea. With Jen and Sam going on an overseas adventure it is the perfect time for their family to update their family portraits as a great keepsake to take along on their trip! I hope you ladies have a wonderful time – and safe travels!

Baby Nash – Wainwright Newborn Portraits

Mr. Nash was such a little sweetheart to photograph for his newborn session. We met up on the morning of Mother’s Day and this little monkey snoozed for the entire session!  2015-07-20_0010 Maddox was so excited to be part of his little brother’s session. He was all sorts of proud to be a big brother.2015-07-20_0011 2015-07-20_0012 2015-07-20_0013 2015-07-20_0014 2015-07-20_0015 2015-07-20_0016 2015-07-20_0017Thank you to the Smyl family! Your little kiddos are such fun to work with.

Gabe – Wainwright Graduation Portraits

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Gabe and his family many times over the years. His mom asked me about my interest in sports photography many years ago – and I can definitely thank her for helping push me in that direction. So needless to say it was quite different to be photographing Gabe in a suit rather than his soccer gear!

‘Life’s tough when you’re two…’2015-07-08_0001

For future reference… sorry for these first two photos muchkins! We took my nephews out a few days after their second birthday to get some birthday photos, but the boys just weren’t wanting anything to do with the camera. They weren’t feeling 100% so it wasn’t their best ever photo day.

Now that they are feeling much better I took them out for a re-try session and had much better luck! ❤2015-07-08_0002 2015-07-08_0003 2015-07-08_0004 2015-07-08_0005 2015-07-08_0006 2015-07-08_0007 2015-07-08_0008 2015-07-08_0009 2015-07-08_0010 2015-07-08_0011 2015-07-08_0012 2015-07-08_0013

Carmen & Justin – Pigeon Lake Engagement Portraits

I met Carmen and Justin for the first time a couple of weekends ago for their engagement session. As I made the drive to our photo location I got more and more excited for both the session AND their upcoming wedding. The locations are all so beautiful that I knew we were going to have plenty to pick from.

And then to top it off… these two are just too cute for words! It’s easy to say I’m quite excited for their wedding next month! 2015-07-06_0009 2015-07-06_0011  2015-07-06_0013 2015-07-06_00122015-07-06_0014 2015-07-06_0015 2015-07-06_0016 2015-07-06_0017 2015-07-06_0018

Sorrell & Marshall – Wainwright Engagement Portraits

I have known Marshall for nearly my entire life. We met way back in 1995 when my family moved to Wainwright! I’m so excited to see that he has found the love of his life and I was more than pleased to be there for the moment that she said ‘Yes!’ to his proposal.

I’m so excited to photograph your wedding in Lloydminster next summer! It’s going to be a wonderful day. 🙂2015-07-06_0001 2015-07-06_0002 2015-07-06_0003 2015-07-06_0004 2015-07-06_0005 2015-07-06_0006 2015-07-06_0007 2015-07-06_0008Cheers!

Name Change! Welcome to Laura Smiley Photography!

Some of you may be wondering about the recent changes to my logo and page name. I have noticed for some time that my fans and clients are often asking me what my first name is when we meet or start e-mailing. I want everyone to feel comfortable to approach me and not have that lingering feeling of…

‘Great, so I know you are a photographer, and your last name is Smiley… – but what do I actually call you!?’ (Fun Fact – I do respond just as quickly to ‘Smiley’ and I do to Laura.)

Meeting new people and having the privilege to work with so many wonderful people in my job is one of my favourite parts of the experience. I hope that with sharing my full name it can open up conversation more quickly and easily. I am so excited about the change!

For those of you who haven’t been following me long I’d like to tell you a little about myself.

  • Most of my life has been spent living in Wainwright Alberta. I moved back in 2013 and am quite happy to call Wainwright my home.
  • I have been running Laura Smiley Photography (formerly L Smiley Photography) since I graduated from high school in 2008.
  • I attended Grant MacEwan University from 2008-2011 and studied Design with a major in Photography. I met some amazing friends in those years.
  • I absolutely love outdoor photography. Whether it be weddings, grads, family, sports, etc… I love being outdoors as much as possible.
  • I love Nikon and I love Macs
  • My favourite sport is baseball – and it is probably the only sport that I actually understand the rules and can actually watch from start to finish without being completely lost. (Go Blue Jays, Cubs & Cardinals!)
  • Traveling keeps me sane. I usually like to have my next trip planned before I am even home from the last.
  • I love a good road-trip. Even if it is work related that time on the road is so much fun. I find myself constantly admiring the scenery and thinking ‘I wish I had a bride in the car with me…’
  • Coffee and steak are staples. A morning is truly not started until I have had that coffee. And steak… That’s a food group if you ask me. 😉
  • One of my favourite adventures in the last two years has been Auntie ‘TeeTee’ to my handsome twin nephews. Those two absolutely melt my heart.

Cheers!
